Pakistan

In Pakistan, over 20 million people still live below the poverty line, struggling to scrape a living for themselves and their families, that’s why Salam continues to be on the ground helping to lift people out of hardship with our Community Development and Education campaigns.

With an estimated 207 million people, Pakistan is the 6th most densely populated country in the world. It shares borders with many countries including Afghanistan, India, and China. The geographical location of the country makes is more prone to natural disasters with flash floods and major earthworks affecting millions of people.

Pakistan still has a long road ahead to end poverty once and for all, so it’s important that we tackle the underlying issues that allows poverty to destroy lives.

  • Almost half population over 15 years of age are illiterate (UNESCO,2014)
  • Over 17 million people do not have access to clean water (CIA World Factbook,2015)
  • 4 in 10 live in “multidimensional poverty” (UNDP, 2016)
  • 24.3% of people still live below the national poverty line (World bank,2015)

Home Sweet Home…

We have identified the biggest causes of poverty in Pakistan and are working hard to tackle these issues head on by providing education, shelter, clean water and proper sanitation to some of the poorest families in Pakistan.

Having a roof over your head is something that we all take or granted that’s why Salam has made a promise to provide 8 families, with a place to call home in Azad, Kashmir. Each home will contain running water, electricity, heating and proper sanitation.

Please give what you can and together we can give a family a home.
