Pakistan Children

Across Pakistan, millions of boys and girls are being denied their right to an education

Pakistan has one of the poorest education systems in the world, the second highest out-of-school rate in the world and third highest illiteracy rate. Sadly, the majority of out of school children are girls, while two thirds of the adult illiterate population are female.

Although the Constitution of Pakistan states that every child has the right to free and compulsory education, this is not the reality. Due to poverty and cultural beliefs, families prioritise additional income over education, sending their children out to work, rather than to school, and families prioritise sending their sons to school over their daughters

Education is a basic human right, a powerful instrument for change and critical for Pakistan’s growth and prosperity. Yet millions of children – mainly girls – are engaged in child labour and being denied their right to learn, to thrive and to reach their full potential.

Salam Charity has partnered with Shahid Afridi Foundation to establish a number of schools and support existing schools with its infrastructure and operational needs.

With your help, we can transform the lives of these underprivileged children.
