Sustainable Development Programs
Our Goal…
Salam Charity is working towards creating lasting change by implementing sustainable development programs, and empowering communities in countries such as Palestine and Bangladesh.
Through different community development projects, including the Gaza Olive Tree project and the Medina Square project, we are working towards lifting entire communities out of poverty and into a much brighter future.
How you can help…
Please give what you can, and we can make sure that the people around the world have a brighter future to look forward to.
The fight continues…
Poverty is real. Poverty robs people of their dignity, their self-worth, and their basic rights as a human, and yet we continue to allow extreme poverty to ravage the world. In Bangladesh alone, almost 13 million people still live below the poverty line, not knowing when their next meal will come. Children digging through waste dumps in the hope of a morsel of food.
Bangladesh has made significant progress in its fight to eradicate poverty, and has successfully reduced the number of people living below the poverty line, from 82% in 1972 to 13% in 2016.
The Medina Square
Salam Charity has begun its most ambitious project to date in Bangladesh; The Medina Square. The community being developed will comprise a mosque, shelter, academy, play area and a community center. It’s designed to lift an entire community out of poverty through sustainable development.
The journey has only begun…
The Medina Square is a community led initiative to provide housing, free education and healthcare in one of the poorest Sylhet. At the center of the village will be a brand new mosque and an academy. To ensure that the community at Medina Square can lead themselves out of poverty, we will provide affordable housing to hundreds of people living under the poverty line.

We are at phase 2.2 and are about to lay the foundations for the mosque. The modern building will have deep foundations and will be raised above sea level to keep it safe from flash flooding, cyclones and earthquakes.
Palestine: Divided and Broken
Years of conflict and blockades has left Palestine with the highest unemployment rate in the world. People are struggling every day with the most basic of necessities including food, clothing, shelter and healthcare.
Families are struggling to put food on the table and maintain even a basic form of shelter over their heads, but with very limited job opportunities available, there seems to be no hope in sight. In 2018, 52% of Gaza’s population was unemployed, up from 44% in 2017.
As the years pass, life has become increasingly difficult for the Palestinian people, but there are ways that we can help. We have created a social development program to help people escape the vicious cycle of poverty, and lead their families to a brighter future.
Gaza Olive Tree Project
We are helping people overcome the grips of poverty and unemployment, by providing them the means to make a living and lead themselves out of hardship. Our olive tree farms offer the people of Gaza the ability to grow their own olives and not rely on handouts to support their families. Olive trees live for hundreds of years and can generate income for generations to come.
You can help the people of Palestine with as little as one olive tree, which will generate many liters of oil for the farmer, who can then sell this oil to provide for their families.
